The Black Tie !!!

For someone who opened her eyes and looked at the entire world constantly noticing that no-one looks like her while everybody else is similar to each other is a confusing start to a life of a baby while developing one's own mental facets. To become the centre of attraction for everyone and the constant re-assurances of being part of the family would only raise more doubts in ones own identification to one's environment. The only information which is available to her before the adoption agency provides some documents is that she was wrapped in a newspaper when found in S.Korea in 1977.
So starting from whatever was written on the newspaper to the entire sequence of events in the life of a S.Korean infant who was adopted by a German family, the show surfaces through the sequence of events in her life, also trying to find the roots of this child who is feeling constant alienation from her surroundings.
It touches all the topics such as the effects of international aid in creating more and more of such alienated beings. There is a popular programme on Korean Channel which re-unites such adoptees to their family of origin. It also touches significant topics like the unification issue between the 2 Korean nations. It talks about the reduced human gene pool in S.Korea thanks to the reducing female to male ratio. The number of infants who are put up for adoption are largely females.
Then there are sites viz., 23andme.com and decodeme.com which help you by giving whatever you would like to know about your origin/race, the diseases you might have got and also the potential diseases from your DNA.
The show uses interesting lighting, music (songs performed by ludwig) and modern gadgets as tools to communicate effectively. Overall a pleasant show and evening with interesting and stimulating topics to take home. [ The Black Tie by Rimini Protokoll at NSD Fest ]
